Subsidy Requirements

To qualify for subsidies associated with the Home Sweet Homan homeownership initiative, buyers must fit the following requirements:
  • Live, work, or worship on the West Side of Chicago. Specifically in zip-codes 60608, 60612, 60623, 60624, 60644, or 60651.
  • Have a household income level between 80% and 120% of the area median income for Chicago. Perform a self-check with the chart linked here.
  • Save at least $3,000 for a down payment. This is the minimum buyer contribution required by our program.
  • Complete a homebuyer education course. The course will need to be performed by a HUD-certified homebuyer counseling agency. Home Sweet Homan is partnered with Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago to provide homebuyer education courses to buyers. Register for upcoming courses here.
